Find out if the doctor (also called Dr or MD) is properly licensed and has a clean record. You can go online to research doctors’ backgrounds thoroughly. It’s wise to find a medical or surgery doctor (Dr) near you, rather than far away so you can get to him or her quickly and easily in the event of an emergency. When visiting each doctor, assess the appearance of the medical clinic, hospital, center or office, making sure the building is well maintained and clean. Meet with several health staff members and make note if they are timely and well groomed. Inquire about sick visits, how the doctor will typically treat or care for his or her patients, medication and prescriptions, and what kinds of tests are performed to bring patients closer to a cure. You want to choose a specialist you feel comfortable with, but you also want to feel comfortable with other staff members such as nurses too. It’s important to make sure they take your insurance. If not, replace their name on the list and move on to the next doctor.
